I.                   Teaching aims

a)        Be able to listen, speak, recognize and read the following words: rice, noodles, fish, beef, soup, vegetable, etc

b)        Grasp and use the following sentences freely: Can I have some …? Sure. Here you are.

c)        Know a little about the following sentences: What would you like for dinner? I’d like some ……

II.                Key and difficult points

a)        Be able to listen, speak, recognize and read the following 6 words: rice, noodles, fish, beef, soup, vegetables

b)        Be able to read the word, vegetable, correctly.

III.             Teaching aids

word cards and pictures about fruit, drinks and food.

IV.              Teaching procedure

1. Preparation

a.       Warming up----Sing one or two songs (If you’re happy, Bingo.)

b.      Class begins.

c.       Greetings between the teacher and the students.

2. Presentation

a.       Show pictures of fruits and practice the following sentences:

What’s this in English? (Can you say this in English?)

What would you like, apples or pears?

I’d like some apples/pears/oranges/bananas/grapes, etc.

Here you are.

Thank you (very much).

b.      Show pictures of drinks and practice the same sentences:

What’s this in English? (Can you say this in English?)

What would you like, water or tea?

I’d like some water/juice/tea/milk/coke/coffee, etc.

Here you are.

Thank you very much.

c.       Show pictures of food and practice the same sentences:

What’s this in English? (Can you say it in English?)

What would you like, cakes or bread?

I’d like some cakes/bread/hot dogs/hamburgers/chicken/French fries, etc.

I’d like some rice, noodles, fish, beef, soup, vegetables, etc.

----While presenting these items, the teacher also gives these pictures to students and let them practice the same sentences: Here you are. Thank you (very much).

       3. Practice

a.       The teacher pretends to be hungry and says: I’m hungry. Can I have some rice, please? Try to let students understand it and show the card of rice. Then try to teach the student say: Sure. Here you are. Then put the picture on the blackboard.

b.      Let students do the same work with the other five pictures: noodles, fish, beef, soup, vegetables, etc. Pay more attention to the sentences: Sure, here you are. Remember to put these six pictures on the blackboard.

c.       While presenting the sentences, write down the following sentences on the blackboard. ----Can I have some …? Sure. Here you are.

d.      Let all the students read the words and sentences on the blackboard.

e.       Play a game.----Look, listen and read.----When the teacher point to a picture, e.g. a picture of rice, and read the same one, the students must read it in chorus. If not, the students have to stand up.

f.        Play another game.----Find the food.----The teacher put a picture in a place and let one student try to find it. When the student is doing this, all the other students will clap their hands and say the word according to the distance where the student is near the picture. Then the student can judge the place of the picture according to the sound of clapping. When the student finds it, he/she must say: Can I have some …? Then the other student will answer: Sure. Here you are.

4. Development

a.       Show three pictures about breakfast, lunch and supper(dinner). Prepare for the following step----What would you like for dinner? I’d like……

b.      The teacher puts on a hat of the waiter with a plate full of food. Then ask students: Now everything is ready. What would you like for dinner? Let students say: I’d like …… /Can I have some ……?

c.       Let students form 5 groups and each group have a waiter or waitress. Let them practice with these sentences.

d.      Task time-----Each group chooses one pupil as the waiter or seller. Ask the pupils to go to buy something. Practice the following sentences:  What would you like? Can I have some … , please? Sure. Here you are.

5. Sing a song to end this class.
